The Scanna ScanX Scout MKII CR X-Ray System is a portable computed radiography (CR) imaging system designed for EOD, search, tactical, and forensic teams requiring high-resolution X-ray imaging in the field. Building on the proven ScanX Scout platform, the MKII introduces improved spatial resolution, faster scanning, upgraded hardware, enhanced battery monitoring, new scan modes, and expanded image-processing capabilities.
At the heart of the MKII is a new 30-micron focused laser spot, improved from the original Scout’s 50-micron laser spot. Depending on the selected scan mode and imaging plate, the system provides resolution from 2–10 lp/mm and can deliver up to 10 lp/mm in High Definition applications.
ScanX Scout MKII uses lightweight, flexible, electronics-free CR imaging plates rather than a rigid digital detector panel. Plates are available in multiple sizes and can be combined or custom configured for imaging unusually shaped or large targets. The system integrates with XTK imaging software for image acquisition, viewing, processing, and mosaic creation.
The ScanX Scout MKII incorporates a number of hardware improvements over the original Scout platform:
ScanX Scout MKII provides multiple software-controlled scanning modes, allowing the operator to select the appropriate balance between scanning speed, image resolution, and file size.
| Scan Mode | Approx. Scan Time* | Image Resolution* | Approx. File Size* |
| Fast Scan | 30 seconds | 150 DPI | 10 MB |
| Standard | 90 seconds | 250 DPI | 30 MB |
| High Resolution | 240 seconds | 500 DPI | 120 MB |
*Approximate values measured using the XTK toolkit. Actual image resolution and scan performance vary according to image plate type and selected scan mode.
Low Dose Mode provides additional flexibility when working with an underexposed PSP. It can also be used to rerun a previously scanned PSP for further examination with gain applied without requiring the operator to return to the target and expose the imaging plate again.
The MKII’s Apply Contrast Resolution capability takes advantage of the 30-micron laser spot and 2 × 2 builds during post-processing. Processing increments can include 60 micron, 120 micron, 240 micron, and additional configurations as applicable.
ScanX Scout MKII is fully integrated with XTK imaging software for image acquisition and processing. The system can also scan images for the creation of larger mosaic images.
ScanX Scout MKII uses reusable, flexible, electronics-free digital imaging plates. Unlike rigid detector panels, there are no electronics, cables, or connectors required at the imaging plate itself.
Standard imaging plate formats include:
The system is compatible with HR, GP, and Blue imaging plates as well as protective covers, flexible cassettes, and mounting accessories. Imaging plates can be erased and reused.
The FlexRay Image Plate Mounting System allows multiple CR imaging plates to be combined into a larger mosaic. According to Scanna, FlexRay configurations can provide coverage of approximately 20 sq. ft. in a single X-ray exposure, allowing large objects to be examined while reducing the need for multiple exposures.

ScanX Scout MKII can be configured with a range of X-ray generator and viewing options. Scanna identifies compatibility with Golden XR pulsed X-ray generators using manual fire, remote trigger cable, or the Bluetooth Trigger Module (BTGM). The BTGM allows compatible generator control through an Android application.
A range of semi-rugged and fully rugged Windows 2-in-1 tablets and laptops running Windows 10 or Windows 11 can be used with the system. ScanX Scout MKII is fully integrated with XTK imaging software.
Image resolution varies according to the type of image plate used and the selected scan speed. Technical specifications are subject to change.
