The QinetiQ TALON® Multi-Mission EOD Robot is a rugged, field-proven robotic system designed to support explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN), reconnaissance, defense, security, and rescue missions. TALON robots have been in continuous active service since 2000 and are engineered to help military personnel, law enforcement, and first responders perform critical operations from a safer standoff distance.

Built for demanding environments and adverse weather conditions, TALON combines a highly mobile tracked platform with a heavy-lift, multiple-degree-of-freedom manipulator arm, high-definition imaging, and secure digital communications. Its configurable and adaptable design allows the system to support a variety of mission profiles while providing operators with real-time information and situational awareness.

Communications & Control

TALON features an external IP radio using Persistent Systems’ MPU5 Radio and a Gigabit Ethernet communications backbone. Its radio-agnostic communication architecture supports IP mesh-networking radios and provides powerful, secure digital encrypted communications for remote operations.

Imaging & Situational Awareness

TALON provides operators with high-definition imaging and real-time situational awareness during critical missions. Its PTZ camera system supports up to 1080p (1920 × 1080) resolution with 30X optical zoom, 12X digital zoom, and up to 360X combined optical and digital zoom.

Stationary cameras can be positioned at the gripper, elbow, rear and/or front of the robot and support up to 1080p resolution. The system also provides 1080p HD color still images and video along with user-adjustable illuminators.

Mobility & Manipulation

The TALON platform is engineered for mobility in difficult terrain. It can climb and descend 37-degree slopes, climb 43-degree stairs, and navigate through up to 15 inches of snow or demolition rubble. Its manipulator system provides substantial reach and lifting capability, including a maximum payload weight of 150 lbs. and continuous 360-degree gripper rotation.
