The QinetiQ SPUR™ Squad Packable Utility Robot is a compact, backpackable tactical ground robot designed for rapid deployment and demanding dismounted operations. Engineered to combine mobility, endurance, advanced sensing, and manipulation capabilities in a highly transportable platform, SPUR can be carried in a single MOLLE II Assault Pack and deployed without tools in less than one minute.

Weighing just 26.42 lbs. with four batteries, manipulator, and PTZ camera installed, SPUR is designed to navigate rocks, water, sand, stairs, and other challenging terrain while remaining compact enough to operate in confined areas such as culverts and sewer pipes. Its high-performance manipulator arm, advanced imaging capabilities, long radio range, and UC-LITE™ Universal Controller provide operators with real-time information and situational awareness while maintaining a safer standoff distance.

UC-LITE™ Universal Controller

SPUR is operated using QinetiQ’s UC-LITE™ (Universal Controller – Lightweight Interoperable Tactical Equipment). The compact, lightweight controller features an open-system architecture designed to be adaptable and reconfigurable for evolving technologies and mission requirements.

UC-LITE is available in single- and dual-screen configurations and is designed to command battalion-level unmanned systems, including unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and unattended ground sensors (UGSs).

Imaging & Situational Awareness

SPUR provides advanced imaging capabilities for remote observation and situational awareness. Its PTZ camera supports up to 1080p (1920 × 1080) resolution with 30X optical zoom, 12X digital zoom, and up to 360X combined optical and digital zoom.

Stationary cameras can be positioned at the gripper, elbow, rear and/or front of the robot and support up to 1080p resolution. A 320 × 256 thermal camera with 8X digital zoom provides additional imaging capability, while user-adjustable illuminators support operation in varying lighting conditions.

Manipulator & Payload Capability

SPUR’s high-performance manipulator provides a 33 in. (83.8 cm) vertical reach, increasing to 41.5 in. (105.41 cm) when the flippers are used to tilt the chassis upward. The manipulator provides 26 in. (66 cm) of horizontal reach, 37 ft-lb (50.17 Nm) of gripper strength, and continuous 360-degree gripper rotation.

Available IOP payload ports vary by system configuration:

  • Arm and PTZ installed: 1 available chassis IOP port and 2 arm IOP ports
  • Arm installed without PTZ: 2 available chassis IOP ports and 2 available arm IOP ports
