The QinetiQ UC-LITE™ Unmanned Systems Universal Controller (Universal Controller – Lightweight Interoperable Tactical Equipment) is a compact, lightweight common controller designed for unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and unattended ground sensors (UGS). Built for dismounted operations, UC-LITE combines an ergonomic handheld design with a modular, open-system architecture that can be adapted and reconfigured to support evolving technologies and mission requirements.

Available in single- and dual-screen configurations, UC-LITE is radio-agnostic and compatible with a range of communications options. The controller provides intuitive physical controls and a daylight- and night-vision-readable touchscreen while supporting integration with QinetiQ, government, and third-party command-and-control software.

Radio Communications

UC-LITE uses an Ethernet (IP) radio-agnostic communications architecture and is compatible with MANET mesh radio systems. QinetiQ lists compatibility with communications options including MPU5 and AeroVironment Pocket DDL, allowing the controller to support different unmanned-system communications requirements.

Display & Operator Interface

The UC-LITE primary operator interface features a 7 in. WXGA display with 1280 × 800 resolution, 10-point capacitive gloved multi-touch capability, and 500-nit brightness. The display is designed to remain readable in daylight and is compatible with night vision devices.

Ergonomic physical controls are designed for gloved operation, while the button layout supports multi-UxS control. The hand controller is also MOPP IV compatible. An optional 7 in. secondary LCD display can provide additional screen space for maps, controls, or sensor information.

Rugged Design

Designed for demanding field environments, UC-LITE is MIL-STD-810G compliant and IP65 rated, with a specified drop capability greater than one meter. The controller operates across a temperature range of -5°F to 120°F and can be stored at temperatures from -20°F to 160°F.

System Integration

UC-LITE is designed as a common controller for battalion-level unmanned systems, including unmanned ground vehicles, unmanned aerial systems, and unattended ground sensors. Its modular open-system architecture supports future upgrades and integration with third-party systems and command-and-control software.

The system is IOP compliant and has demonstrated STANAG 4586 integration through RQ-11B Raven testing. QinetiQ also states that UC-LITE meets U.S. Government standards for operating software and warfighting-machine interfaces.
