Safety & Operator Controls

UC-HD incorporates dedicated safety features for operation of high-speed and safety-critical unmanned platforms. Integrated safety hardware includes a MIL-STD-1472 emergency stop and operator presence detection.

The operator interface combines a 10.1-inch high-definition touchscreen with physical controls designed for multi-UxS operation. The 800-nit display is daylight readable and compatible with night vision devices, while the capacitive touchscreen supports 10-point multi-touch operation while wearing gloves. The controller is also MOPP IV compatible.

I/O & Connectivity

  • 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports
  • 2 USB 3.0 ports
  • External power input
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • GPS

Radio Communications

UC-HD uses an Ethernet (IP) radio-agnostic communications architecture and is compatible with MANET mesh radio systems. QinetiQ lists MPU5 and AeroVironment Pocket DDL among the supported communications options. Commercial or SAASM GPS configurations are also available.

Docking & Mission Operations

UC-HD can interface with a docking station for simplified operation inside a vehicle or at a mounted workstation. This configuration supports mission planning, mission execution, and post-mission analysis while the controller’s lightweight modular design allows it to transition to dismounted operations when required.

System Integration

UC-HD is designed to operate multiple unmanned systems, including both air and ground assets. QinetiQ identifies compatibility with existing fielded route-clearance unmanned ground vehicles, medium-sized unmanned ground vehicles including TALON®, small unmanned ground vehicles, and Group 1 UAS platforms.

The controller features an open-system architecture designed to support future upgrades and integration with third-party systems. UC-HD is IOP and STANAG 4586 compliant and supports integration with QinetiQ, government, and third-party command-and-control software.
